Afternoons: Drop off 12:45 – 1 pm, Pick up at 4:00 pm (by 4:30 at the latest)

There are snack breaks in the morning and afternoon, and a one hour supervised lunch for full day campers. Please ensure your child’s snack and lunch contain no nuts, eggs, fish, or kiwi, as we do have campers with severe allergies. Thanks!

Explore Drawing & Painting Camp

This camp will help you learn a variety of important art-making techniques! Explore mediums like watercolour, acrylic paint, pencils, charcoal, collage, and more! Activities such as perspective drawing, self-portraiture, still life, and contour drawing will help participants develop drawing and painting skills that they will put to work by creating unique pieces of artwork throughout the week. 

Both group and individual instruction will encourage students at their level of experience. New and returning campers welcome!

Junior Art & Craft Camp

This camp is perfect for kids from ages 6-7 who want to explore the exciting world of art and craft! The week will be full of activities that encourage free expression and teach valuable foundation skills in a variety of media. Each child will develop and be challenged at their own level of experience through group and individual projects and friendly encouragement from the instructor. A combination of free-form creative projects and lessons in colour theory, drawing and painting, print-making, and sculpture will make learning a blast. This camp provides a foundation for the development of skills and creative thinking that will benefit their future creative pursuits!

Once Upon a Time: Art based on stories (Ages 6 – 8)

Once Upon a Time: Art based on stories

In this camp, kids will use a variety of media to respond to and create stories with artist, performer and story-teller Catherine Wright. Based on tales and fables, this camp includes mask and puppet making, silk painting, book-making, prints, drawing, and sculpture. With a focus on fun narratives and funky characters, kids will learn skills in image making, drawing, painting, and bookmaking while engaging with fun and exciting stories. 

*Because of the activities undertaken in this camp it is particularly important to abide by the age guidelines. Thank you!

Through an array of exciting hands-on projects, kids will learn the basics of colour theory, structure, form and shading, and come home with art and craft pieces that show off their skills! Camp includes group and individual projects, and children are encouraged and challenged at their own level of experience. Expert local artists and teachers guide them through educational activities and super fun projects they’ll be talking about for weeks to come. Activities will include drawing, painting, print making, collage, book-making, sculpture, recycled materials re-purposing, and more.

Always wanted to learn to sew? Now is your chance! In one of our most popular camps Gina Rae King will teach you all about sewing machines, and you can choose from our magic box of funky fabrics to create a stuffed animal/monster, a tote bag, and other fantastic things! Kids will learn to sew straight and curved seams, and how to cut, pin and sew simple patterns. This camp is for beginners, and must be completed before registering for the advanced camp!

Are you secretly a mad scientist, a dare-devil princess, or an evil-doer with a soft spot for kittens? Are you longing to expose your secret identity to the world? Look no further! Under the auspices of drama camp, you can show your true colours and no one will be the wiser! Local actor and stand up comedian Greg King will guide youth through a series of exercises designed to acclimatize them to the stage and get them comfortable with performance techniques. Over the course of a week, they will collaboratively craft a play starring characters of their own invention, which will razzle and dazzle family and friends and the grand performance on Friday afternoon! New and returning participants welcome!

In this camp participants will use an assortment of beautiful threads and fabrics to create artwork - embroidery, wall hangings, bracelets and cuffs, headbands, and more! The sky is the limit in creating fun textile art and projects under the expert guidance of local textile artist Melissa Tarrant.

This dye-studio adventure will start off with fun and funky tie dye and progress into more advanced fabric dyeing techniques. Youth will also learn a variety of ways to print images on fabric, including a simplified screen printing technique. Animals, monsters, nature, and abstract forms inspire 3-D sculptures. In this camp participants will learn the basics of building structures and using sculpting materials as they explore a variety of materials including cardboard, plastics, and a huge variety of recycled materials. Once the forms are created then the decorating and embellishing begins with paint, crayons, tinfoil, fabrics, and an assortment of other materials. Fun for the adventurous camper who might want to bring the characters of their imagination to life!

Designed for youth who have already done our introductory sewing classes or camps, this camp tackles more complex projects not designed for beginners. Participants will can create stylish wallets, iPhone cases, pyjama pants, and will learn a simple do-it-yourself technique for screen-printing onto fabrics. By the end of the week, these fashion-savvy campers will be ready for the catwalk!

Art Camp for Adults! Drawing in Colour (Summer)

Date: August 14 - 18
Times: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Instructor: Tara Bryan

Adult can get creative in summer camp too! The talented and inventive instructor Tara Bryan will help you bring your drawings to life with colour! In this camp you will learn different techniques using coloured pencils (Prismacolour or similar) and a variety of papers to enhance sketches and make your drawings more vibrant and lifelike. Colour theory will be discussed a bit, as you can use it to enhance your images, and you will learn different methods of applying the colour to achieve the effect you want.

Students can to bring their own pencils, X-acto knife, and eraser. Paper will be provided. $10 materials fee.
This week-long adventure in art making will inject a healthy does of fun and creative experimentation into your summer. This class welcomes participants of all levels of experience. Join us for a week of creative experiences, learn something new or put anew spin on your existing art skills!

How often do we just get to let ourselves have fun with creativity? The talented and inventive instructor Tara Bryan will help you take your drawings into the third dimension! Using paper, scissors, a variety of drawing media, and a bit of thread and glue, participants will learn to make numerous structures for artist's books, and explore different ways to approach filling the pages to make them unique. Learn to transform drawings into books, make a poem into a sculpture, make words into drawings and more. The possibilities are endless, and you will be amazed by what you can do with a few simple materials.

Students need to bring scissors, whatever pencils, markers, pens, and other mark-making instruments they like to use, old drawings, collage materials and glue sticks.

This week-long adventure in art making will inject a healthy does of fun and creative experimentation into your summer. This class welcomes participants of all levels of experience. Join us for a week of creative experiences, learn something new or put anew spin on your existing art skills!

You may not be able to reveal your secret super-hero identity to your family and friends… but there’s no rule that says you can’t write a comic about it! Tell your tales of adventure and excitement in your very own cartoon! Spend the week crafting your character and learning the ins and outs of drawing, inking, page design, lettering, and all the other ingredients that go into making a great comic. Comics expert, author, and illustrator Wallace Ryan will throw in a dash of history of both written and animated comics and cartoons. Perfect for anyone with an interest in comics, illustration, manga, or anime! New and returning students welcome.

For aspiring artists who want to advance their skills and beginners interested in developing their creativity, this camp will cover all the important foundations with room for exploration. Lead by experienced and innovative instructor, Stephanie Stoker, with many years of experience as an art educator, this camp will include portraiture, landscape, perspective drawing, abstract design, outdoor sketching, texture painting and open-ended projects. With a full week of working time, participants will have a chance to really explore the various styles of drawing, painting, charcoal, graphite, ink and mixed-media.

Drawing Downtown Camp (Ages 13 – 17)

Instructor: Wallace Ryan

Downtown St. John’s is a truly picturesque and historic place. Campers will join illustrator Wallace Ryan on a guided tour of the downtown, where they will stop and sketch impressive architecture, stunning landscapes, and important monuments. Instruction includes the basics of perspective, shading, form and plane, and how to create texture. From the Narrows to the Courthouse, from the canines at Harbour side to the soldiers at the war memorial, it’s a great way to get outside and enjoy the summer while learning the foundations of sketching and drawing.

Drawing skills are a big part of cartooning - and - for participants of this class who have a interest in cartooning,  Wallace will include sessions during the week specifically on drawing skills for cartooning.
