Fur Mitten Workshop (Winter)

Join Barry Buckle in the creation of a traditional pair of seal fur mittens over the course of the afternoon. All materials will be provided, and the instructor will guide you step by step through the process of creating the mittens. This workshop is intended for experienced sewers and it is limited to eight participants to ensure adequate attention from instructor. At the end of this workshop you will go home with your very own pair of gorgeous seal fur mittens!

Making Leather Moccasins (Winter)

Title: Making Leather Moccasins

In this 3 part series you will create your own set of moccasin style slippers.  You will have options of using NL harp seal leather, moose hide, seal skin, rabbit or beaver.    The participant will move through the process of creating a pattern based on their own foot size and become familiar with techniques used to cut fur and leather as well as hand sewing with leather needles and artificial sinew.

Introduction to Leather Working (Winter)

Title: Introduction to Leather Working (Using Newfoundland Harp Seal Leather)

In this series of classes you will be introduced to basic hand sewing techniques specific to leather work.  We will learn how to prepare the leather for cutting and stitching and use basic patterns to create a functional item you can take away and use. As well, the participants will learn techniques for stitching and to give their pieces a finished look.  Participants will be introduced to tools such as leather chisels, punches, mallets, burnisher, leather needles, stitch pony and artificial sinew.

Machine Sewing: Beyond the Basics (Winter)

Are you comfortable at a sewing machine?  Do you have basic sewing skills?  Are you ready for a new challenge that will take your sewing skills to the next level?  If you have answered yes to these questions and you would like to learn how to sew clothing & garments, then you are ready for “Machine Sewing: Beyond the Basics”.   In the first class, your sewing instructor Gina Rae, will discuss project options and help you choose a project that will challenge your skills & you feel ready to take on.   Everyone will complete at least one garment as Gina Rae guides you expertly through the sewing process step by step.  You learn by doing and advance your sewing skills with the experience.

Machine Sewing: An Introduction (Winter)

Details: This short course is an ideal choice for anyone who wants to get started machine sewing.  You will learn about machine set up, parts and accessories, cutting patterns, sewing straight and curved seams, finishing techniques, and more.  You will learn the basic skills as you as you gain hands-on experience, follow a simple pattern, and complete two projects: a canvas tote bag with accent and a pair of comfy pajama pants. We provide sewing machines and sewing notions.

Fee:  $135 (HST is included, supplies are extra)

Note:  Supplies for this sewing class are purchased directly from the instructor for a $35 fee
