Sculptural Crochet

Dates: September 21 – October 12
Times: 4 Thursdays 7:00 – 9:30 pm
Instructor: Mimi Stockland

Description: This class approaches the craft of crochet from a contemporary art perspective and explores how to take this relatively simple textile technique beyond making flat pieces and simple garments, into the realm of 3D crochet techniques. The workshop will use mathematical concepts to think about crochet, and ultimately give you the freedom to manipulate yarn and form in a fresh, inventive way that satisfies your imagination. You will be encouraged to choose one/several technique(s) that particularly interest you and explore them in further depth within a specific project. Students will start by making small samples to grasp and explore basic techniques as they are presented. By the end of the 4 weeks, they will have begun work on a larger sculptural piece incorporating one or several of these techniques. Designed primarily for intermediate to advanced crocheters, this class will expand the horizons of what is possible in crochet and give you more tools to add to your creative belt.
